The DeKalb-Sycamore Area Transportation Study (DSATS) is developing a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP) aimed at reducing and eliminating serious-injury and fatal crashes affecting all roadway users on all public roads. It will include DeKalb County and the communities within the County. The DSATS is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the DeKalb-Sycamore-Cortland urbanized area.
Key safety stakeholders have been selected to serve as a member of the safety committee due to the significant role they and/or their agency/organization have with improving traffic safety and ultimately, reducing traffic-related fatalities and injuries. The safety committee will include representatives of engineering, enforcement, education, and emergency medical services. By serving on the safety committee, they will help ensure that we reach all stakeholders in the DeKalb region and better understand their safety concerns and challenges. Additionally, outreach efforts to stakeholders within the DSATS area will be able to take part in safety surveys during the plan process.
The DSATS CSAP, along with several other CSAPs throughout the state, is being funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The plans will be developed in accordance with the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) funding program, making DSATS and the local agencies eligible for future funding through the SS4A and other state and federal funding programs. The plan will be developed with the leadership of a consultant team alongside DSATS, the safety committee, and a broader group of stakeholders.
